50 Reasons to Leave

I collaborated on this song with Jon Martin. Jon is a popular musician who performs solo as well as in a rock band and a heavy metal band. I met Jon when he was performing a solo show at a local brewery in Medford, Oregon. I was intrigued by his unique voice as well as the passion he demonstrated in singing his songs. After meeting him, I asked if he would be interested in seeing some of my lyrics (**This is the hardest part for lyricists - to take the risk of sharing your work). Anyway, he liked them and we've been working together ever since. This is the first song we finished together. Its meaning - how a special person can overcome the negative aspects of living in a certain place - can be appreciated by all.

lyrics

Sick of this place

I could get out tomorrow

And not leave a trace

I got 50 reason to leave

I count ‘em everyday

50 reasons to leave this place

And one reason to stay

I can’t breathe here

And I cannot see the sky

I’m so tired of the town

I could fly away tomorrow

Wouldn’t even have to try

I got 50 reason to leave

I count ‘em everyday

50 reasons to leave this place

And one reason to stay

This job’s got me down

Down on the ground

I could twist off tomorrow

And not even make a sound

There’s just one reason that keeps me here

One reason to stay

One reason that keeps me here

Today

I got 50 reason to leave

I count ‘em everyday

50 reasons to leave this place

And you’re the reason I stay

‘Cause I got 50 reasons to leave

One reason to stay

50 reasons to leave this place

You’re the only reason for me

To stay
